The role of the Contract Integrated Pest Management Scout is to monitor plants for disease or harmful pests and to respond to threats. We achieve this goal by using a range of options from careful examination of plants and surrounding areas, analyzing disease pressure profile, deploying preventative biological controls and responding to outbreaks.

The IPM Scout works directly with the Section Growers, primarily monitoring the nursery for pests and keeping accurate records of all monitoring activities.

The ideal candidate is a hardworking individual with an eye for detail, a love for plants, insects, and the outdoors, and excellent time management skills. We are seeking someone who is committed, eager for long-term opportunities, and ready to grow with the company. No prior experience is required—training will be provided.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about learning, enjoys outdoor work, and is ready to handle diverse tasks with dedication.

Key Responsibilities are:
  • Systematically scouting for pests in a variety of plant material.
  • Checks for symptoms or signs of pests.
  • Submit the scouting (pests, weeds, abiotic symptoms) into the system
  • Reports excessive numbers of weeds to the growers in order to remove them.
  • Release biological control (BCAs).
  • Collect samples to send to the Lab.
  • Assisting Growers in a variety of other tasks as needed (Measurement of EC/PH, Copper, HP, KleenGrow, replace tags). 
  • General tasks when it is needed (sanitary pruning, hand weeding, inventory)
  • Work with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Performing chemical sprays as needed on plants

Work Location:

34819 Harris Rd. Abbotsford, BC V3G 1R7, reliable transportation required as this is not on a bus route.

Requirements:
  • Committed to hard work, time management, and achieving goals.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Able to work a 30-40 hour workweek, with shift work as required.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs (22.7 kg), standing for long periods, and performing repetitive bending, twisting, and pulling.
  • Rain gear and safety footwear (per OHS 8.2).
  • Pesticide Applicator License. (an asset)
  • Ability to use a computer for simple tasks.
  • English proficiency (Spanish is an asset).
  • Driving license.
Terms of Employment:

This is a seasonal full time position for a term of 12-16 weeks with the possibility of becoming a permanent role depending on budget. 

Wages:

$20/hr

Job Type:
  • Contract 12-16 weeks with potential to go Full time Permanent
Schedule:
  • Day shift, Monday to Friday.
  • Weekends as needed, particularly during the Spring season
